A big thanks to Elyse from Just Murrayed for taking over the blog today in the next Perks of Being Married to My Spouse post!
Since Andrew and I met in grade 9, he's always had a pencil and sketchbook in hand. When we were in high school, he always talked about getting into the animation industry; working on cartoons has been his passion since he was a young boy.
10 years into dating, he landed his first job in the animation industry here in Toronto working on a preschool show. And just 5 years later I've seen one of his dreams become a reality, to become a Storyboard Artist!
I knew nothing about the animation industry or his job but I quickly learned there are LOTS of perks of being married to a Storyboard Artist!
He gets invited to fun events like exclusive gallery showings, art lectures and movie screenings.
Andrew (and by default me!) gets invited to many fun events such as the Roald Dahl Art Exhibition, the exclusive sneak peek of Kate Beaton's new book or AnimaticTO lectures with Pete Williams (creator of Undergrads). Our schedule is packed from April-October usually with MANY events that since he's still relatively new in the industry, he likes to attend because it's one way to schmooze with people.
He's living out his dream.
It's not always a glamorous job, but I know Andrew wouldn't want to be doing anything but what he's doing. He loves drawing, he loves creating something and seeing people's reactions. He loves the people he works with because they are just as passionate as he is about cartoons, drawing and art.
He knows people who once worked on my favourite childhood movies (and probably yours too!)
When Andrew gets invited to fun events, I love hearing their work histories because there are TONS of people who have worked for some pretty epic movies and television shows from my childhood such as Aladdin, The Lion King and Pocahontas.
He's a natural at giving manicures and pedicures.
He draws and paints on a regular basis but I was shocked to discover that he's a natural at giving me manicures and pedicures because he's very steady with his hand and knows just the right amount of pressure that needs to be applied for an even coat.
I love seeing Andrew fulfill his dream of making cartoons and I'm excited to see what he does with his passion in the future!
