What We Pack for a Short Romantic Getaway

I tend to be an over packer, making sure that we have whatever we might need for every situation we might encounter. By sticking to the basics, I’ve been able to pack light and stick to our goal. Obviously, if we were to get away for more than a few days, we’d need to get more suitcases and pack more, but this list works well for us in our current stage of life and for the getaways that we take on a regular basis.

How to Save Money on a Romantic Getaway

A year and a half ago, we were able to stay in one of the nicest rooms at our favorite B&B for less than $130, saving about 50% off the regular price. I was really proud of those savings and excited about the things I’ve learned over the years that help make our getaways more affordable. I wanted those tips to be shared in a way that they could apply to a romantic getaway anywhere so I decided to write this post. If you've ever thought, 'We can't afford to stay somewhere nice and/or romantic', this post is for you! I'm here to tell you that you can enjoy a nice night away without having to scrimp and save for years.

Plan a Romantic New Year's Eve Getaway

I love our little at home celebrations that I’m sure will only get more fun as our kids get older and understand more about what’s going on and can stay up a little later. But I have dreams of a different kind of celebration that we could do as a family or just as a couple in coming years. Have you ever gone on an overnight getaway for the New Year? I have grand ideas for a low-key overnight getaway with our kids that I hope we can make happen next year, but what I really want to do is go on a romantic overnight getaway, just my husband and I, once every few years or so.

Why You Should Take a Marriage Moon Together

You've heard of the honeymoon and the babymoon, but have you ever been on a marriagemoon? We have been on a lot but until now, we've never called them that. At least twice a year, we take a night or two and get away for a romantic weekend, or I guess a second honeymoon together. We usually stay close and we don't spend much money, but we make it special and we use the time to connect with each other. We've been doing this since the beginning of our marriage and it's always been a game changer.

How to Enjoy Your First Weekend Away From Your New Baby

We got home yesterday from an amazing weekend up in Midway, where we stayed at Zermatt Resort. It was the perfect setting and location for a relaxing weekend that allowed us to spend good, quality time together and reconnect as a couple. We missed our baby a lot while we were gone, but knew that he was in good hands at grandma's house. To be honest, we felt worse about leaving our puppy behind to hang out at home by himself. We were excited to get home to both of our boys today, but I'm glad that we took the time to get away together for a couple of nights!

Whenever we start planning a weekend getaway, we always think about The Anniversary Inn first. Escaping Reality Together

In June, we tried to have a relaxing night away to celebrate our anniversary, but last minute circumstances that were out of our control turned it into a crazy, tiring weekend of traveling. We decided then that we were going to get away during the weekend between our birthdays, even if it was just for one night. I am so glad we did because this weekend was just what I needed! Quality time with my husband, visits with friends, good food and a lot of relaxing without any responsibilities.

How We Celebrated One Year!

I feel like our anniversary celebration lasted half of a week because of how spread out our celebrating was. Our actual anniversary was on a Thursday, and we decided to work through Friday this year rather than taking the weekend off to go somewhere. We did go to dinner on Thursday and I gave Joe his gift, (more on that later) so we celebrated a little bit, but the real party didn't happen until the weekend.
