Shows to Watch Together on Netflix

It is our goal to be intentional about making time to work on our marriage every single day. That being said, at the end of each day, you'll usually find us curled up together in bed, watching our current Netflix binge. After we've finished our work day, cleaned up the kitchen and the kids are in bed, we're usually both exhausted. Some nights, we love to sit back and relax and when we do, we love having a show to watch together.

Joe loves Netflix because you can watch entire seasons of shows on your own schedule rather than waiting a week or more for the next episode to come out. We've also really come to love Netflix originals. A lot of couples have their "show" that they watch together as a couple. We love being able to quote shows in our everyday life and love discussing and getting the next piece of the story line together.

33 great shows on Netflix that you'll enjoy watching with your spouse! You'll find something for every genre on this list.

Looking back on the shows that Joe and I have watched together and taking some suggestions from other couples, I put together a master list you can refer to the next time you're looking for something good to watch together. I added a few of these to our queue as well! Whether you're looking to just watch and episode or two or binge watch and entire season (or more), I'm certain you'll find something on this list that you haven't seen yet and will love!

AFV - It's like watching funny YouTube videos in succession without having to browse for the next one and hope that it's good. This show never gets old!

How I Met Your Mother - Another quirky show with lots of little jokes and a running story line. Joe hasn't watched this one with me, but I enjoyed it (although, I don't think I finished the last season ever...) and I know a lot of other couples who have listed this as one of their favorites to watch together.

iZombie - We started watching this one because it sounded a bit like Warm Bodies. It's a fun little crime show with some quirky side story lines. We need to finish watch the most recent season to hit Netflix though.

Modern Family - I love this show, the dynamic of the family and all of the crazy things that go on in their lives.

The Office - If you haven't watched this series yet, you are missing out. Some of the characters will drive you bonkers and others will feel like your best friends. We can never watch this show too many times.

Parks & Rec - We resisted watching this show for a while and started it multiple times before finally skipping through the first season and loving the rest of the series. I think we've watched the series twice and a few episodes more than that. Joe quotes Ron Swanson often!

Santa Clarita Diet - This Netflix original is about as quirky and quirky can get, but we really enjoyed it.

Scrubs - This is one of our favorite, watch a quick episode before bed, shows. We didn't love the very last season though and probably would never watch that season again.

Beauty and the Beast - I've been hearing about this show for a while and finally added it to our queue to watch. I can confidently recommend it though because so many of my friends have told me that it's good.

Between - Joe and I are only a couple of episodes into this show and it's a little crazy, but it's intriguing and suspenseful and has kept me interested. I believe it's a Netflix original with a unique story line. It is a bit dark though, so if you're not into that, you may not like it.

The Crown - I would compare this to Downton Abbey and have been told that the people who like one like the other. Joe and I started it, and then another show that we'd been waiting for new episodes on hit Netflix and we kind of forgot about it. I'm adding it to our list to start watching again.

Flashpoint - Joe really likes this show and I'm always intrigued by it. You can watch episodes alone and not be confused. There is a tiny bit of a storyline, but each episode fairly well wraps up the story at the end so you're not left hanging or confused if you pick up after not watching a few episodes in between or for a while. It's basically hostage negotiation, and you can't help but love the characters.

Granite Flats - I'll be honest, I've never seen this one, but I saw it on Netflix when I was browsing and knew that I needed to add it. This is a show that my family used to watch (after I'd moved out) every Sunday and I know one that they really liked. Joe and I may be adding it to our list soon.

House - We're currently watching this series for the second time through. We love this one! If you like shows that take place in a medical setting, you'll like this one. It's funny, dramatic, has a little bit of romance, and is eventful so you don't get bored.

Lie to Me - This is another show that we're in the middle of and need to finish watching. I feel like this is the crime version of House, so if you like that one, you'll like this one!

Longmire - One of Joe's very favorite shows. I've watched a couple of episodes but need to sit down and really watch it in order to get sucked in I think. Quite a few couples told me that they watch this one together and love it.

Madame Secretary - I like this one, but Joe is very particular about his politically based shows, so it isn't one that he has watched with me yet. If you like shows like House of Cards or West Wing, this might be one that you would like as well!

Once Upon a Time - I am SO behind on this show! I started watching this one on my own, pulled Joe into it after a few seasons were on Netflix (I would watch the current episodes and also watch the older stuff with him) but we stopped watching for some reason. I'm hoping to start up again soon and get caught up on what has been happening in Storybrook. I LOVE how they tie so many fairytales and stories into this show.

Parenthood - This is another show that if you haven't watched, you really need to. It's a relate-able show with a family that you will fall in love with. If you've been watching This is Us and liking it, I've heard the two compared to each other. It's one of those tear jerking, feel good shows that you can't get enough of and are sad about when it's over.

Sherlock - We haven't watched this yet, but I added it to our queue when I was writing this post. So many people have recommended it. Have you watched it yet?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - My friend Charlene recommended this to me and I'm excited to start watching it with Joe, I think it will be the next one that we start because I know he will love it!

Blacklist - We got so excited when the most recent season of this show hit Netflix. It's one of those crime and suspense shows and such a great one!

The Flash - Joe watches this one on his own, but I always sit down and join him when I walk in the room. If you like Marvel movies, you'll like this show!

Lost - One of the strangest, most suspenseful shows I've ever watched. I don't know if I could bring myself to watch it again, but I'm so glad that I watched it all the way through once. Any time I think about it, my brain is still trying to process what went on. I don't know how people come up with crazy twists and turns like this plot has. We always had to watch an episode of Scrubs after watching an episode of this because my brain was racing when we'd finish.

Person of Interest - Another show that was recently recommended to me and that we will be watching soon! That's about all that I know about it :)

A Series of Unfortunate Events - I read these books as a kid and have heard nothing but good about this show. Joe never read the books but I'm hoping that he'll like the shows. And no, we're behind so we haven't watched it yet.

Stranger Things - Joe watched this one while he had the flu earlier this year and said that it was so good. I caught bits and pieces of it but think it might be too suspenseful for my "afraid of the dark" self to watch. If you like suspense and thrills, you'll like this one.

The Walking Dead - When we first started watching this show, I told Joe "I can't watch anymore after this" in the middle of the first episode and then we got to the end of the episode and I couldn't not watch the next one. This show is fantastically done and the one that Joe watches every single week rather than waiting for the entire season to hit Netflix like he does with most shows.

Reality TV

Alaska State Troopers - This is a random suggestion and kind of a random show. It's like Cops, but specific to Alaska and they run into some really crazy things. It's one of Joe's favorites.

Cupcake Wars - Some of the cupcake flavors that they come up with are so strange to me, but I'm always intrigued and want to try them. I love to see the creativity and wish that my brain worked like theirs did.

Fixer Upper - Who doesn't love Chip and JoJo?!? The only problem with this show is that when I watch, I want to do all sorts of things to my house. I also wish that they could come and remodel my home for me on a tight budget...

Food Truck Wars - I LOVED this one! It makes me so excited to eat from food trucks and support families and their small businesses.

The Great British Baking Show - This is a new one that I've been hearing a lot about but have yet to watch. You'd better believe that I added it to my queue though!

What are some of your favorite shows to watch together as a couple, whether they are on Netflix or not? Are there any must watch shows that you would add to my Netflix list?
