I love birthdays! I think they're the best!
Tonight we went over to my parent's house for family dinner! Always an adventure! Then Joe's family came over for presents and cake and the real party began! Ok, so the presents, I got lots of great things that I've been wanting and that I love! Kohl's gift card, money for shopping, Target gift card, a book I've been wanting, candy and lotion, earrings, Joe's sister gave me some cute Halloween cooking stuff including a fun serving dish that says, "Be wicked, take another one", story of my life!
Here's the first inside joke gift:
I've really, really been wanting. a sandwich maker, they're one of my favorite appliances! Joe's joke is, "I got a sandwich maker when I got married." Hardy har har, yes, I make good sandwiches, so I guess I should be flattered by that. So when I opened this gift, I had to laugh because my brother added his little 'Wife Not Included' tag to it. I giggled a bit.
Then here's my story that has to do with Joe's present. He claims that I ruin things, which, yes, I did ruin my proposal, but in my defense, I was sick and tired and I just wanted to be engaged already!! This kid is so funny because he's totally obvious about things. I've been wanting a Kitchen Aid since before we were married and I talk about it all the time! I always told him that he got his Dyson vacuum, so now I should get my cushy appliance that I want to so badly. He'd always make some sarcastic little comment to me about it, until a couple of months ago. I was making cookies with a hand mixer and hating life, complaining about how much I wished I had my Kitchen Aid, and Joe was silent, no comments at all, that started my brain rolling. Then I started to notice that any time I brought up the Kitchen Aid just because it's what I do, he'd sit there silently and not say a word or else he'd change the subject. I told my mom and my friend that I was pretty certain I was getting my Kitchen Aid for my birthday. I made the mistake of making a sarcastic comment about it because of another conversation that we were having and so he had to come up with something sneaky so that I didn't just get exactly what I knew what I was getting. Here's a story in pictures of me opening my present from Joe, he'd been laughing evilly the whole day and the whole time I was opening the box.
Joe had his mom find this old, old, old mixer at DI and she wrapped it up (Yeah, he just bought my present and his family wrapped them for him. He can get people to do anything.) and he thought he was hilarious! I was really nice though and didn't act really disappointed, but I did ask him where my real one is, so he had his brother go get it out of his parent's truck. So here's my new friend! For now, his name is Hector, but Joe wants me to name it Victoria or something!
I washed the bowl and all of the mixing devices tonight! I'm so excited to make some cookies, or make Joe make cookies! Oh yeah, another side story, one time, in our first month of dating, for part of our date night, I taught Joe how to make cookies. His friend called and made fun of him and kept telling me that he knew that Joe knew how to make cookies, and I was wasting my time, but Joe seriously can't cook anything, so I was convinced that he was telling the truth. I just found out this morning while we were talking about something, that Joe knows how to make cookies, he used to make them all the time! What a little liar!!!!
My actual birthday festivities might seem kind of lame to some people, but it was honestly a really great day! I still had to go to work, but I ended up leaving an hour early because I was done with my things and it was my birthday and Joe was already home from work. I figured that those were three really good reasons. When I got home, Joe and I ran some errands and then got an early dinner at Kneaders! I think that Joe thinks I'm crazy for liking that place so much, but it is so delicious! I get their BLT on Hazelnut 12 grain bread and I usually get a fudge brownie. I can't rave enough about the fudge brownie, it is chocolate fix perfection, it is just divine and yummy and chocolate and rich and moist and perfect, yep, that's it! Last night I decided to splurge and have a chocolate croissant instead of the brownie. The croissant was delicious, I love croissants and I love chocolate, but I think that maybe next time I'll go back to the perfect brownie!!! When we were done with dinner, we let our food digest while we watched last week's episode of The Office, since thanks to Netflix and Hulu, we are all caught up to the current season! It was a funny episode! I decided that I really wanted to make cookies and try out my new KitchenAid, so Joe lovingly retrieved ingredients and even measured some for me! (Hey, he did tell me that he'd do whatever I wanted since it was my birthday. Except, he said he would not play Barbies!) I'm not as good at making cookies as I am at making desserts in a brownie pan, so that will be something for me to work on!
I think that the thing I loved the most about my birthday was that it was chill, I'd celebrated over the weekend, but my actual birthday was relaxing, I avoided homework, and I got to spend a lot of time with Joe! That's what made it the best, my time with Joe was more than normal and it was good, quality time!
What is your favorite way to celebrate a birthday?
