Super Simple Date Idea - Discover a New Restaurant Together

I’ve had a few requests for really simple date ideas, so I’ll be sharing more of those here on the blog and over on my Instagram account. This is the first one I’ll be sharing and I’m really excited about it! When I started my local date night blog a couple of years ago, one of my biggest goals was to start exploring more together. Discover fun new things we loved to do and eat out at restaurants we never knew about or have been wanting to try but hadn’t yet. We still frequent our longtime favorite places to eat and go back to the new ones we’ve discovered often, but continuing to discover new foods and eateries that we love together has been a lot of fun!

Going out to eat is a date night staple, why not make a point to try someplace new every so often? I’m setting a goal, right now, to plan a date to eat somewhere new for date night at least once a month. That way we can still enjoy our favorites, but get out and discover new restaurants together as well.

How to Find New Restaurants to Enjoy Together

Make a list

If you’re anything like us, you have a running list of "we should try that place” restaurants. Write those all down, as many as you can think of. A shared lists on an app on your phone is a great place to do that. Then add to it as you find or hear about new places you want to try for date night. As you’re planning your date nights every month, pick one from the list and go try it out!

Take a drive around town

My job takes me to a lot of different areas where I’ve never been before. Any time I’m driving around, I make note of restaurants that look good so I can look them up later and add them to our list of places to try if I think they’ll be something that we like. Make a date out of driving around your area looking for hidden gems or newly opened places that you might not have known about before. Add them to your list and make a plan to visit them!

Ask friends and family for suggestions

If we’re going to be in a new area, or if nothing on our list sounds good, I’ll put out a call for suggestions on social media. This is a really fun way to get new suggestions that you might not have thought to try or known about before. It helps us grow our list and discover really yummy food we’ve never had before!

Try a newly opened restaurant

We live close to a really amazing shopping and entertainment center. There’s been a turn over in restaurants there recently, and some new ones opening up in newly built areas and we’ve had a lot of fun trying them out. I’m not usually one of the first to try a new place when it first opens because crowds… but we try to visit during slower hours within the first month that they’re open.

Visit a family favorite that one of you hasn’t been to

One of the first “new” restaurants that we went to together was The Spaghetti Factory. It’s one that Joe’s family eats at on a regular basis but I had never been to. Every time his family mentioned it, I noted that I’d never been before. Four months after we started dating, he surprised me with a Valentine’s date there and we’ve loved it ever since. It’s one of our favorite places to eat for date night or a family dinner and we go there often, even now that Joe is gluten free.

Split a meal

When we’re trying something new, especially new food, it’s really hard to decide just one thing from the menu that we want to eat. By picking two or three menu items that sound good to both of us, we can experience a few new things in one trip.

When you go out and try your first new restaurant together, tell me what it was, what you had to eat and how you liked it. I’ll be sure to share our experiences on Instagram stories each month!
