Tips and Tricks for Cooking Ribs on the Grill

We started our rib cooking journey out on the grill but just recently perfected this recipe and learned a few new tricks within the last year. The taste of smoked ribs is great, but they take all day and lots of attention, which we don’t always have to give when we’re in the mood for ribs. I love how quickly our ribs cook on the grill and that we can enjoy them all summer long without heating up our oven or the house!

Oven Baked Ribs and Homemade Drop Rolls - Date Night At Home Meal

We've gotten really good at grilling or smoking ribs, but during the colder months when we don't want to cook outside, we miss this recipe so I decided that this year we will make them four different ways (in the oven, crock-pot, grill and smoker) and share our technique for each of those with you!

Christmas Cookie Decorating Date Night + The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe

Rather than having my own sugar cookie decorating party to get gifts ready for neighbors and our contribution ready for parties, I invite Joe to join me and we make a date of it. Some times he helps me frost, but most times he’s the taste tester every step of the way. We turn on Christmas music or bring the small TV up and watch a Christmas movie while we decorate. Sometimes we’ll get all of the decorating done while the kids are decorating their cookies at the kitchen table, but a lot of times I opt to wait until they have gone to bed or are taking their naps.

Grilled Chicken/Turkey Breast - My Favorite Recipe for Summer Barbecues

For as long as I can remember, every time my family hosts a summer party in the backyard, my mom grills turkey (or chicken) breast. When this recipe is on the grill, I'll pick it over a hamburger or hot dog any day! The meat is juicy, flavorful and makes enough for a crowd. If there is enough left at the end of the meal to take home leftovers, the turkey/chicken makes great sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc. It's even yummy cold!

The Breakfast Food That Makes Me a "Fun Mom"

Belgian Waffles with fruit, ice cream and Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce are more of a dessert, but because they're waffles, I justify eating them for dinner and even breakfast. This is one of my favorite foods from childhood and one that I always looked forward to introducing my future family to. This is a meal that can turn an ordinary day into a special occasion! I'd like to think that meals like this make me a "fun mom" in the eyes of my kids.

Raspberry Buttermilk Muffins

One of my mom's favorite summer foods would have to be raspberries and they've quickly become one of Bensen's as well. We eat them fresh, make jam with them and put them in a lot of different recipes. These muffins, or really any muffin she makes, usually disappear into our bellies before they even have the chance to cool off. Of all the muffins she makes, these are probably my favorite. They make the perfect addition to breakfast on our deck, a picnic at one of our favorite free summer activities, snack at the beach, etc.

The Best Waffles for Breakfast in Bed

Whenever I make waffles, or any other breakfast food for that matter, I mix up more than one batch, cook all of the extra batter, and freeze the leftovers. When we're ready to use them, we thaw a few in the microwave, for 30 to 45 seconds, then pop them in the toaster for a few minutes. They come out perfectly crispy and warm, ready to be drizzled with syrup and eaten. This trick means that we can enjoy our favorite breakfast foods every day of the week if we want, without the time, effort and dishes that goes into making them initially.

Our Three Favorite Freezer Cookie Dough Recipes - Showing Love to My Spouse with My Love Language

I quickly realized that this was a great way to show Joe love in a way that spoke to him, using my own top love language, Acts of Service. But fresh, homemade cookies are a process and sometimes take a lot more time I have when Joe's cravings hit. I found that one of the easiest ways for me to serve my husband in a way that he loves is to mix up a batch of cookie dough, roll it into individual cookie dough balls, and freeze them. Then we have fresh dough that we can pull out and bake at any time.

Buttermilk Pancakes and New Traditions

I've always had dreams of enjoying a big breakfast together as a family every Saturday or Sunday morning. Waking up to the smell of pancakes and eggs on the weekend was one of my favorite parts of growing up. We also had hot cereal every Sunday morning because it was quick and kept us full through church meetings. Unfortunately, rotating church times and our Saturday work schedules over the years have prevented this from becoming a regular tradition in our little family. Then a few weeks ago I saw someone mention that they have one night a week set aside to eat breakfast for dinner and I realized that was the answer to all of my problems!

How Baby #2 Has Changed the Way We Do Date Night

One of my favorite things about date night at home is that it's relaxed and we have the potential to really connect and have fun together. So often we resort to ordering takeout and getting a movie from Redbox, but the more that we spend date night at home, the more I've tried to think outside the box and find something new to do together. Rather than just sitting down to eat, I thought it might be fun to prepare a meal together. We'd get to work together as a team and enjoy the results of our hard work. This meal was simple but felt fancier than our every day dinner. And Joe said that it tasted "excellent".

Creating New Saturday Traditions + Recipe for Congo Bars

I had so many plans to get things done last Saturday but the perfect weather and my cute family made it hard to want to be a productive human being. I've been wanting to make these cookie bars for weeks but always convinced myself that I was too busy to take the time. I finally decided that Saturday would be the perfect time and that I could include Bensen in my fun.

Date Night Moments with the Perfect Grilled Summer Dessert

A few weeks ago, I had the idea to make one of our favorite desserts at home on the grill and it definitely did not disappoint! These skillet cookies are something that we used to enjoy at a restaurant near us. That restaurant closed and although there are other locations, they aren't close, so we rarely get to indulge. Being able to make them at home is perfect and so much fun for date night! They will also be fun to make as our kids get older and can enjoy them with us.
