What Would You Do With a Date Night?

This year I decided that we were going to make date night a priority and plan something fun together each week. We'd fallen into a rut of not really knowing when date night was every week, and we always ended up just spending a random free night at home getting takeout and watching Netflix or a Redbox. I wanted to be more intentional with setting aside a night every week (it changes depending on the week and our work schedules) and doing something that we wouldn't normally do, even if it was just bringing more excitement and creativity to our normal dinner and a movie. So far we've been doing really well, and I find myself looking forward to date night every week.

What would you do with a date night?

It was my turn to plan date night this past week and because it was the weekend before Valentine's Day, I decided to theme our entire date around the color red. I kept it casual and didn't go all out, but we had a lot of fun. I even wore red for the occasion!

P.S. I'm linking up with Aubrey and Kimberly today for What Would you Do Wednesday, and obviously the theme is date night. If you have a date night post, you should link up with us and/or get ideas for fun dates from the other posts that are linked up as well!

Red Date Night

I had a few ideas of where we could go to eat, but I decided to make Joe pick without giving away my plans. I text him earlier in the week asking him which he'd prefer for dinner on Friday, a steak (Ruby River or Sizzler), a burger (Red Robin) or Mexican food (Red Iguana). He picked steak, and although I know how much he loves a cheap steak dinner from Sizzler, I decided that Ruby River's name fit the theme of the night better and it was somewhere we'd never been, so we'd be trying something new at the same time.
Sidenote: If you ever go to Ruby River, try their Raspberry Chicken. I went for something a little out of the ordinary for my dinner choice and it was super delicious!!

The obvious choice for entertainment that night was the movie Red with Bruce Willis. We will never get sick of it, and it's the perfect date night flick in my opinion. If you haven't seen it yet, I would highly suggest you make it part of your next movie night. It has action/adventure, comedy and romance so no matter what you're in the mood for, you'll love it! We continued our date night on Saturday and watched Red 2 because we couldn't watch just one. I think I favor the second movie over the first, but they are both really good. Perfect for a marathon movie night!

We were both so full after our delicious dinner that we didn't end up doing this on Friday night like I'd planned, but we did incorporate it into our date night encore the next night. If you need some ideas of what treats you could add to your red date night, here are a few that I thought of: Hot Tamales, Burnt Peanuts, Nacho Cheese Doritos, Swedish Fish, Red Vines or Twizzlers, Kit Kat or 100 Grand (even though the candy isn't technically red), etc.

Dressing Up for Date Night

I came home from work on Friday feeling wilted and exhausted, so I made a point to freshen up my makeup and put my hair up (the wind blown look from the day was just not working for me) before we left for the night. I said something to Joe in the car on our way back from dinner about how much better I felt after I took the time to look cute for date night and he said, "I didn't even notice that you did those things." He did notice that I put on perfume though, I guess we'll give him credit for that.

What would you do with a date night? Are there any other fun activities that you would incorporate into a red themed night with your spouse?
