Joe's cousin gave her farewell talk this past weekend before leaving on her mission to Hawaii. We had promised her that we would make the trek down to St. George so that we could be there for it. Because we didn't end up traveling down that way in February, we decided to make this more than just a quick little trip and have a some fun. We left on Friday and came back Sunday afternoon. It was a short trip, but it was good to have a little vacation time.
Friday after I got home from the office and from my weekly client at the salon, we packed up the car and headed down to Provo to meet up with Joe's cousin and his wife! It was good to have that hour drive together and fun to have another couple to ride with. When we got to town, we filled the car up and with gas and they dropped us off at Grandma's where we stayed for the weekend! We didn't do much on Friday night, we ate dinner, watched a movie and then Joe and I had to fix the audio on my computer so that we could watch Netflix until we were tired. When your computer all of the sudden says it has no audio device, it's a little bit of a problem.
Saturday morning it was so nice to sleep in a little bit!!! Daylight savings time had really thrown my whole week off and I could never fall asleep at night and then never wake up in the morning, it was brutal! I spent the whole week being tired and groggy all day so it was good to catch up on a little bit of sleep and not have to wake up early. Joe and a cousin made breakfast for everyone and I was so shocked that Joe made scrambled eggs from start to finish that I had to take a picture! He never makes food, so this wasa huge event. I loved that the light above his head made it look like he had a halo as he cracked the eggs. Maybe he'll cook more often! ;)
I wanted to spend Saturday afternoon in St. George just hanging out before the mission festivities began so we headed down there after we were all ready for the day! We had to make a detour to Enterprise, which is clear out in the middle of nowhere, and while we were there, I saw these cute trucks in someone's front yard and had to take a picture. It's Mater and baby Mater! I love them!
I have been dying to go to the Pasta Factory so that was our first stop for lunch! I was a very happy girl and it did not disappoint! Joe got Beef Tenderloin with some vegetables on pasta and I think he liked it, he didn't get as excited about his meal as I did about mine though. The two times I went with my family, probably when I was in junior high or younger, I remember that I always got the Bowtie Chicken Caesar Salad. I'm not a Caesar salad type of person so I wasn't sure if I'd still like it, but I did!
After lunch I convinced Joe that we should go to the Outlet malls for a bit and shop. My goal was to get him some new workout shoes, a few new shirts and maybe a new tie. He is one of the most difficult people to shop for and I never feel like I'm safe buying him anything except a tie unless he is with me. We accomplished our goal of finding Joe some new shirts at the Izod store in the outlets. I even got a new shirt at The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, my favorite store in any mall ;) It says Got Chocolate, this is me wearing it on Sunday on our drive home!
We made our way over to the party house and ended up watching the end of The World's Fastest Indian with a bunch of people and we also got to watch the Blue Angels put on their show from the driveway! It was pretty fun to see!
In honor of Joe's cousin going to Hawaii on her mission, they threw a luau for her that night for all of the family and friends. We all wore Hawaiian attire. I had a lava lava from when my dad went to Tahiti on business and my brother had a shirt that he'd gotten at the DI for a voice recital back in high school that kind of matched! I was so excited about us matching in our fun outfits and I think Joe was secretly groaning inside the whole time, even though he'd laugh at me. The food was good and so was the company!
Sunday the farewell wasn't until 11, which was nice because we had an hour drive to get there from where we were staying and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it up and be ready too early in the morning. She gave a great talk, and there's no doubt that she will be a fantastic missionary! We all hung out for a bit after church and then a huge group of us headed back to Grandma's to have a big steak dinner.
Our drive home was quiet, everyone was worn out from the weekend and I think everyone took a little snooze. When we got to Provo, we stopped to visit my brother's at their apartment for a bit before heading home! It was a fun little trip! I'm glad we got to do it!
