I am a firm believer in birthday week, (aka using your birthday as an excuse to do and eat whatever you want) but Joe has yet to completely agree to that. I plan on having a celebration every day for husband's birthday next week in hopes that he'll come around!
A lot of my birthday activities weren't really grown up because I have the heart and soul of a five year old, but I enjoyed them a lot! On Wednesday, we'd planned to go to Cornbelly's and I was really excited about it. They were supposed to be open early all week long because of UEA, but the website lied to me because when we got there, we found out that was only the case for Thursday. I was a little disappointed, but after we picked a date to come back, I got over it and decided that a matinee movie might be fun! If you haven't seen Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 yet, I would highly suggest it! We had the theater to ourselves, so I didn't have to worry about being too quiet. I giggled, exclaimed, made comments, and acted like a child through the entire movie. I don't know which entertained husband more, the movie or me.
I'm dressed all perfect for the corn maze, I NEVER wear tennis shoes unless I absolutely have to.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that Joe decided to torture me last week. On Tuesday night he put my birthday present in a pretty package, left it sitting on the kitchen counter and told me not to peek. Really?! I think he forgot that he married a curious and impatient wanna be five year old. You should all be proud because I resisted peeking for 24 hours!!! But at midnight on Thursday (aka, as soon as it was my birthday officially) I pestered him until he let me open it. Real mature, I know! ;) All I really wanted for my birthday was The Little Mermaid on blu-ray, so I was one happy camper! It even came with a storybook that Joe refused to let me read to him and the puppy didn't care about. The more grown up part of the gift was a new blu-ray player that we've been eyeing for a while, so kind of a gift for both of us, Joe is good at those!
Because Thursdays are when I usually watch all of my favorite shows, I decided to act my age and have a calm and uneventful birthday night. Joe picked up Chinese takeout on his way home from work and we spent three hours watching my TV shows (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Parenthood). We would have watched Glee, but there was some baseball game on, so instead we set up my present and watched an episode of The Office on Netflix. It was a really relaxing night free from homework and my other adult responsibilities. Hanging out with Joe and Howie was perfect and I was one happy lady!
We ended my birthday week with two family parties! My mom made me a birthday dinner (this year I picked tacos), my sister made my cake (Chocolate Sundae Pudding, so delicious!!!) and we just hung out. I didn't take any pictures of the party, but we had a lot of fun!
Joe's family celebrates a birthday every single week in October, we're really cool! Since we didn't get together last week, I got to celebrate my birthday with our cute, sassy niece Lauren! I mentioned last week that I love Candyland and have always really wanted a Candyland cake for my birthday. My amazing sister-in-law decided that I shouldn't have to wait until I'm 30 to get one, so she plotted with Joe and made my dream cake! The Candyland board is white, but this cake is chocolate because I'm a chocolate kind of girl! It was perfect!!!!
We had a great time celebrating with family! I have a lot of gift cards to use on date nights, a few practical things that I've wanted or needed, and some really fun things that my sister-in-law got from my Pinterest wish list! (She knows me well, can you tell?)
I ALMOST bought this bracelet for myself last week, but didn't.
How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
