This is the saga of my wedding ring. It's a little ridiculous.
When Joe bought my ring, he customized it so that the diamond would be set in because originally it was up out of the ring and on point. What they didn't tell him is that they couldn't customize the band to go with it. It was a little frustrating when we tried to have it done a month or so before the wedding they told is that it was probably impossible and I'd have to leave my ring there for a few weeks and then that the wedding band my break so I still might not even have one when it was over. I decided that I didn't want to part with my ring for that long yet and so we should wait for a while and get it taken care of later on.
A couple of months ago, my friend told me that she had taken her ring to be dipped and that I was supposed to do that every six months. Considering I had my ring for a year and a half and never did that, I decided I should be good and take it. On the 24th of July, I made a plan to take my ring down to be dipped and then I asked them if they would work on getting the wedding band put back on. The guy on the sales floor asked me if I slept with my ring out because the top of it was a little worn down or something. That was odd to me because I seriously take my ring off as soon as I get home from work every day. They told me that I could come and pick up my ring that Saturday after three. I didn't make it there on Saturday, so I went Monday during my lunch break. I was really worried that they wouldn't have my wedding band on and that I'd be really disappointed because a year before they'd made it sound like such a long and complicated process and now it was only going to be there for a few days. When I picked it up, it definitely had the wedding band on it and I was so excited!!! I wasn't quite sure how I felt about it at first because in my head, I'd pictured the band sitting flush against the ring but they told me that with how unique my customization is, they don't have a band that they can do that with and I actually REALLY love how it is now!
However, when I got back to work and had been staring at my ring for a bit, I started to notice that the setting around the main diamond was really funky looking. (The above picture is after I took it back a second time so you can't see it there.) It was so strange because it looked like the metal was squishing the band and one of the corners had been really rounded. I was really unhappy with it, so I took it back right after work and they told me that the jeweler would re channel it and fix things for me and that I could pick it up Thursday after three. I was really bummed to have to give up my ring again and be without it for over a week total.
Wednesday I got a phone call and they were asking me if I wanted them to order a half bevel (or something like that) that they could put in and make the diamond more secure and that it might make me more happy with my ring. Since I didn't know what that looked like and I didn't feel like my diamond needed to be more secure, I said no. The lady on the phone told me, "Are you sure? I really want you to be happy with your ring!" Ummm... I'm not sure why the main setting got messed with in the first place, and I'm pretty sure that if it looks exactly like it did when I brought it in the first time, I would be happy with it.
When I picked it up the second time, it looked MUCH better but after a few hours, I finally realized what had been bugging me so badly, they set my diamond down in further than it had ever been before. Sigh....but I have to take it back in six months to be dipped again, and then I can have them fix it more. I was sick of taking it in and I think there must have been some miscommunication and that they thought it was worn down because the diamond wasn't far into the ring but it wasn't set up out of the ring either.
I am very happy with my wedding band though, and it's very original thanks to Joe! :)
Does your ring have a wedding band?
